Hiya, I have a problem with my brakes on my Corsa GSI. I only bought it on Thursday and it had no brake pedal. It looks as if it has had the brakes upgraded on the front. It has the calipers where you take them off using a 7mm allen key, but it is still on standard GSI alloys. Does anyone know if these are GTE brakes?
Well back to my problem, the brake pedal goes right to the floor. I have tried bleeding them today with no luck. If you pump the brake pedal quickly you can get a pedal, but as soon as you release it will go to the floor again. I have checked the rear wheel cylinders and they are not leaking.
Could it be the master cylinder? is there any way to check it?

You might need to wait more than 16 minutes.
Are you getting a dash light? Does the fluid look OK?

 True about the time,
The fluid looks good,
The ABS light came on but went back off after turning the ignition off.
The handbrake light was on when i was driving it home but has stayed off since blleding.

Did you notice if the bleed nipples are at the top or the bottom? They should be at the top, if they are there will be air in the calipers.

The bleed nipples are on the top. I have bled them today a couple of times so im 90% sure they have no air in.
I can get a pedal if i pump it up quickly but then loose it when i release. It's as if the fluid is leaking back past the seals in the master cylinder

Does anyone know how to test a master cylinder. Can i just blank the holes off and try press it?

have you had a look at the rear brake shoe asjusters?
They can seize up and be stuck in a low position.
The shoes will move and not make contact with the drum, therefore there will be no brake pedal ( I thinks)

Cheers X14, i noticed they were a bit tough to turn. I locked off both rears using a set of mole grips on each side and there was still no pedal. Do ABS modulators ever go wrong?

abs wont effect your pedal have you tried bleeding the master cylinder?
i cant remember whether you can bleed them on corsas you should be able to!
if not the master cylinder normally leaks down the front of the servo so that is worth checking

Cheers Carnuts, I've slackened the two brake pipes off the ABS modulator that come from the the master cylinder and bled them from there.
I can't see any fluid leaking from the master cylinger, might it leak into the servo?

could do but i have never seen it normally it bubbles the paint on the servo because of the corrosivenous of brake fluid try slacking it off and checking behind
it might be the master cylinder but normally they dont mess up without signs of leakage
