Can you link a laptop and desktop straight from network card to network card?
To share a internet connection?

Don't they both need to be coming from the router?

I've got a Dell pc which is plugged in to a 3Comm router/modem and a laptop which is wireless using a 3Comm firewire card.

Yes you can.
Set up internet connection sharing and use a crossover cable.

You can. You just need a cross over cable.

Although, some IP's, such as BT and AOL, stop you doing this and make you buy a router.

Set up the connection on the PC, then within the properties, allow sharing, then use the network wizard on the laptop, and tell it that you are connecting to the internet via another computer.

U2U if you get stuck!

Sorted.

Modem is USB.

Used cable from laptop to desktop.
