Painting my wheels black, just wondering what the best paint to use is? Want a gloss black finish. Seen the hammerite smooth spray paint which is a tough wearing paint, anyone used it before? Cant find any black alloy paint! Cheers

I want the lip silver and the spokes black. Where do I go to get them powder coated? There must be some people that have sprayed them and they've lasted?!

I think Rob B has done his black with polished lip looks good!I think theres quite a few people that have refurbed their wheels themselves and its lasted..

Surely if its done properly and looked after it'll last! So anyone want to recommend any paints??! Emailed a few companies about powdercoating anyway but think black alloys on a black car might look too much?!

when i did them in september^
couple of weeks ago^
although i used metallic black over a vaux black undercoat as the metallic was v.thin (makes a good finish but needs a decent undercoat)
keep tyre shine going on helps. they still look mint (although not that good on that pic)

Looking good mate. What paint did you use? Heard car paint aint a good idea but cant find black wheel paint! Surely hammerite smooth black spray paint would be decent?

mate just get the halfords spray cans.
sand the rims, spray them with a few coats giving each coat time to dry, best off doing it when its 20 degrees+ outside
then laccuer them (if you want panel wipe before laccuer to remove orange peal cellulose effect)

What just normal car colour sprays? Ive got about 10+ cans at home of primer filler lacquer etc. Would metal primer be better?

well its all just going to be cellulose paint mate whatever name they have.
i didn't prima mine as i've often found prima on top of already painted surfaces cracks. just sand it down and use black as the base coat. try vaux midnight metallic black as well as a top coat (its more like a tinted black laccuer with metallic flake in it) the finish i've got on mine is as smooth as my paintwork waxed

I'd prefer to spray them as Im after a silver lip to contrast against the black of the car. I've taken the lacquer off and most of the paint as they were ruined though!

yeah? mine where a real mess when i got them, had to use filler in a couple of spokes and sand down a fair bit.
could have done with taking tyres off really to get at lips easier
