quote: GOOGLE and Dell have reached an agreement that will see Dell install a package of Google software on its systems, Google chief executive Eric Schmidt said.
In a potential blow to Microsoft, Google will incorporate its desktop software - which integrates a number of personal computing applications, a Google tool bar and a co-branded internet home page - on Dell computers, a person familiar with the matter said earlier on Thursday.
"There's probably more to come" Mr Schmidt told investors at a Goldman Sachs & Co. internet conference. The software deal would be the first of several agreements, he said. The companies will share revenue from the tie-up, but Mr Schmidt declined to give details.
Google and Dell confirmed in February a test to install Google's software package, which would allow PC customers to search both the public web and local information stored on their computers.
At the time, Dell and Google were reported to be in talks on installing the software on as many as 100 million new Dell PCs, following a bidding process in which Google edged out Microsoft and from which web search rival Yahoo withdrew.
Dell officials had no immediate comment.
A large-scale agreement with the world's largest PC maker would be a major inroad for Google.

Obviously its a way for both companies to make money, but does this mean long term the regular Google service will be compromised??

Naa I doubt it.
They'll make money from advertising and create new services and it means microsoft have to find more inovative ways of making people choose them.
All good competition atm.
What I really meant with the vista thing was more google desktop won't be needed.
With winfs it should be extremely easy to find anything you have on your computer.
If they ever release winfs that is.

MS are apparently trying to buy ebay.
Thats probably why they weren't bothered about getting on a few dells.
If msn integrated ebay a lot more people would use it.
