Come home, temp guage on 88ish. Turn off, open bonnet all is well.

Come home, let temp guage go to 95. Turn off, open bonnet, header tank expands to the cap. Hoses don't go solid even while the water is rising.

I have a little bit of mayo on the dipstick, but not much. None around oil cap or under cam cover. And none in header tank.

Ideas?

Seems a lot of people are having cooling problems recently

So why only when the car is turned off? Surely it would do it while driving? That was at 95. I'm sure if it was any more the bottle would pop

the water is still at 95 degrees when the engine is off, it cools down naturally then
there is a relief valve somewhere so all the coolent would end up on the floor

As matt said, the coolant cap has a pressure valve in that vents excess pressure if it reaches a certain level.

Surely also the water wouldn't do it when the engine is running, because the coolant is actually running through the system?
