after flattening back the paint do you use something like G3 to bring back the shine
and is it only possible with a machine policher or can you do it by hand?

yeah g3 works very well mate. depends which g3 you use as they sell different ones.
just wet the panel, apply g3 and machine polish and will be like new

flat back with 1200-1500 grit upwards wet till the dull patch is flat
apply Farecla G3m using a rotary polisher (ifyou know how to use it, dont try it without practice)
