possible?
Also is the ps3 worth it for the blu ray player? I have an xbox already so dont "need" another console, but if the blu ray player is good then worth getting? Or is a stand alone player better?
Currently have a Jamo home cinema system with panasonic 50" plasma as well as the hd dvd add on for the xbox.
Got some spare moola want a blu ray but might wait.
What do people reccomend?

I was about to say Comet are doing a TV with free BlueRay worth £299, but considering you have a TV, that is pretty pointless. Could sell the TV on mind

PS3 tbh, good Blu-Ray and have the option of gaming if you so wish. Or you can turn it into a Media PC (sort of).

Ah but Media Centers have thier own issues as well such as how to get audio out of them. Currently there are lots of issues getting the HD level audio streams out of a PC. Anything though PowerDVD down samples it (generally acknowledged as the best HD media player at the moment - coupled with the fact it supports hardware acceleration)
A couple years they might have sorted it but at the moment its a nightmare.

There's no Blu-ray player on the market yet that is better than the PS3 in terms of Blu-ray quality.
The only downside (for me), is that the HD codecs can't be sent as bitstream but that won't effect many of you.
The PS3 is a superb device and you'll even find yourself using it as a upscaling DVD player too... and you'll get the urge to buy MGS4.
PS3 all day long...

No it's a pretty good player, a little bulky perhaps but a decent enough player for it's price. Plus like said it's a good games console!
Luke - i thought PS3 had an update to allow for TrueHD and other non-compressed HD audio over HDMI 1.3? Or is it the case that the PS3 can't decode TrueHD the streams and then your relying on your Dolby Digtal processor to decode the stream?

May aswell buy a PS3 as it's the same price as blu-ray players. Plus you can buy all the exclusive games that only come out on PS3

The PS3 is silent.
Yeah, you can buy the official Blu-ray remote control for it (£17 new). I have one for sale for a tenner if you want to buy it. Immaculate condition.

The PS3 could always decode Dolby TrueHD. The firmware update in 2.25 was to allow the PS3 to decode dts-HD Master Audio. It decodes the HD codecs itself and sends it to your amp as LPCM. It'd be perfect if it could send it as bitstream so my amp could decode the codec itself (so I get the pretty HD light on my amp).

I thought the TrueHD/DTS-HD design was for all players to decode locally and send LPCM to AV amps. Suits me to be honest as although I do have HDMI on my amp, it doesn't decode HD codecs (18 months old). Movies do sound rather good
I went for a PS3 as it also gives me an SACD player, but that's a mute point as the 40Gb version doesn't support that any more. Stupid Sony...
