how do u remove the tope engine plate that shows lik 'Ecotec' etc. near the oil top up cap??

I wanna paint it, how is the best way to paint it and what do i need?

unscrew oil cap, unscrew the two allen ket bolts so so simple

mine has like 10 torx screws, and then got 3 pipes conected to it and a plug type thing....hmmmm

im thinking...nope...dont take off cos car will fuck up!

sounds to me like you are running an 8 valve engine.

in that case...... get yourself a new gasket and then take all the bolts off. paint it whatever way you want then replace gasket and put back on. REMEMBER: always tighten the bolts in a circular motion so you dont damage any parts. maybe you should consukt a haynes manual about that

sorry mate, but i dont know anything about the 12v setup. but if you need a gasket you can get one from vauxhall parts department or from a local motor factors

I painted my cover and it looked crap! Just paint the rocker cover (metal top) and leave the plastic piece as is. Although, they're only just over a fiver - give it a go, see what you think.

what engine u got? how did u get the top plate (?rocker?) off...did u disconnect the cables and plug? does anything leak from them?

how do u clean the plate??

Right, I have the 1.2 16V engine. I removed the plastic "Ecotec" cover and used "Gunk" to clean the engine. I then used Halfords high temperature engine paint to paint the metal rocker cover. I didn't remove it as you need a new gasket! It is brushed on, which doesn't look as good as sprayed paint, but its OK. I need to rub mine down now and give it a second coat.
