Because the batteries only have a limited lifespan and you have to go and buy a new ipod.

To be honest i think its a fair call.

Its not going to really make a difference to the size of the Apple units etc. Look at any modern phone and they are 0.01% bigger due to having a removable cover.

Just means they may have to rejig where the parts are places but that does not really matter as Apple tend to release completely newly designed models every 2 years so will just mean an extra step
