Hi Guys,

A problem with my sport. It blue smokes out the exhaust once started after sitting. It blue smokes for around 1-2 seconds. I have been told its 95% sure its the valve stem seals? Does this sound about right?

Its done 62k miles and is on a T reg. Full service history.

Are these what i want? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OPEL-VECTRA-ASTRA-CORSA-VALVE-STEM-SEALS-x16_W0QQitemZ140286585826QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item140286585826&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

How much am I looking at £ to fix and what is involved in the job? Is it ok to leave it?

It still pulls well and doesnt seem to have any other faults. I have tried the speacial solution you put in the engine oil to supple the seals e.t.c but no good.

All help would be great!

Cheers

Edit: It doesnt seem to drink oil. + Are those seals on e-bay any good or do you recommend geting Vauxhall ones? If so how much £ are they?

Ty

Seems it could be valve stems seals, or Piston rings.

What ever parts you get, get GM.

Plus, it's a head off job, which means new headgasket and cambelt.

tbh matey if stem seals, id leave them. there known for smoking a bit anyway. + for the ballache of taking the head of to do them its not worth it unless having other work done like port/polish, bent valves need replacing etc.

if rings then different story. but stem seals arent a mega 'to do asap' job, despite what some people may say to you.

easier to take the head off, save dicking about....you refering to the good old, piston at tdc, and using a spring compressor that clamps to the head?

Yeah thats the way I did it, saves messing with new stretch bolts/headgasket and getting it all off.

Arggg just spend £300 on a new cambelt and waterpump! Im sure its proberly just the stem seals. I spoke to my local garage about it last month and he suggested that. He said they can go on for thousands of miles like it. I guess ill just have to keep my eye on it.

Why cant you reuse the cambelt? How much labour £ am I looking at to get it sorted roughly? Thanks for all your help!

you can reuse the cambelt, its not reccomended but if its only just been done and your careful removing it, can't see a problem.
