Hello! I run an online letting agency - http://www.manchesterpropertygroup.co.uk/ - and currently have a page rank of 1. I know roughly how it works (popular sites have to link to you) but how do I get mine linked and which sites are relatively easy to link from? (if that makes sense)
I already have links from findaproperty.com, primelocation and fish4homes although they are redirected links so not sure if they count.
Any help appreciated and any comments on the site welcomed although it wasn't designed by me, so only constructive criticism pls. Although I like it, i want to make it a bit brighter and memorable but i'm not massively creative.
cheers

Age of the site is extremely important. You'll go up the longer it's on the 'net for (yes, you need to be patient).
The title of the site is very important (you've done well on that).
Your META tags are empty (bad). Get keywords and a description in the HTML.
Your page names and URLs are good.
Problem is, it's a common area and lots of big companies will too be fighting.
Patience and asking for link swaps with other sites will help. I posted my URL on lots of forums and it rocketed up... Do it subtlety so it's not removed or considered spamming.
For example, this will help you the most:
Property for sale and rent in Manchester.
What are you trying to search for?
You've got the word 'property' in the title, but how many people will search for 'renting property manchester'? I know I'd probably use 'house' or 'flat' personally.
Even making sentences seem long winded can help... Include more keywords.
There's not a right answer, you just have to try and make your website seem very helpful.
I'd also pay for some AdSense -- I've heard that helps a lot.

xa0s certainly covered most the points.
Its certainly not a quick thing to gain, but if you set up your site correctly as pointed out above and then market it online so its linked on popular websites/forums then it'll soon get up there.
Pick one or two search terms that will get you the most hits and aim to get a good ranking using that, rather than going for a load of different terms.
