Ok I've no idea how its happened but i've got a crack in the toilet backbox. It runs from near the top to mid way and is slowly leaking water. Is it possible to repair it some kind of sealant on the inside?? Been leaking for a day and couldn't work out where the hell from and then noticed the crack

Flush it to empty it then prevent it from filling back up again (usually by either keeping float switch down).

That way can seal it and it wont leak until you fix it.

Ok. Turn water off at valve on inlet pipe, flush toilet, dry it out. In the short term you can silicon the crack over, in order to seal it. use bathroom silicon though, for waterproofing, then it will be a new cistern. not a hard or expensive job to do

Cheers guys! Turned the inlet off so its not filling up = leak stopped. Reckon its actually repairable tho or is the sealant likely to keep failing?

Its likely to keep failing. You may be able to get some long-term sealant, but im not sure what. Can replace a whole wc for not alot, may be the easiest way

Get some aquarium sealent. Strong as fuck and if you apply it right it should work for years without a problem.

Depends where it is, as some places wouldnt really be effected by any movement where as some really would be (i.e. along the back where its connected to the wall).

Cheers guys, i've got some shower sealant so gonna give that a go first and see if it lasts. Still don't know exactly how it happened but i'm blaming the one night stand from Saturday lol

Been told the back box costs the same as a whole new toilet so gonna be keeping an eye on ebay for a new one anyway, but wanted to see if it could be fixed first to save some £££s
