Im having a problem with my laptop keyboard because when i hit keys J & K i get the numbers 1 & 2 come up so i have had to plug in an old keyboard to my laptop and its really annoying as it replaces the section where i input the mouse normally !!
Anyone got any ideas as to how i get it back

Nah shouldn't be - you could check in Control Panel > Keyboard just to confirm that it's using the right character set and language but even if it wasn't, it shouldn't be doing that?
Um...
Sounds like the keyboard might be a bit buggered?

I had a wireless keyboard, needed to swith the function key off everytime as it doubled up being small keyboard as number pad. See if you got a function key.
Also pull the keys out see if anything stuck under them
