Friend of mines PSU blew up for a mixer.

Am i right in thinking that its AC in AC out?
He bought an AC in DC out (the normal ones like from maplin) an now it doesnt work

Never heard of AC in DC out tbh.
AC is alternating current (mains/wall supply)
DC is Direct current (Battery)
so Maybe what your friend bought is intended for charging devices with built in batteries (ie camcorder etc) but thats a complete stab in the dark...

Most inverters are AC to DC... Well, I used to work in Maplin, and most of what was stocked was like that, and 99% of the customers needed AC to DC

99% of all power bricks are AC to DC.
Just that this one seems to be different

That saying AC out at 12volts, DC is shown as two lines and VDC
You are also shown the polarity in the diagram for the coaxial connector.
