Would be a big help to me, especially on WinXP machines when I'm asked to rebuild them!

Anyone use one that preferably doesn't require an install? Just runs? Not virus ridden?

There was a website that did a hardware scan online, however i'm guessing you'd want one that wasn't online? (and I can't remember the name of it anyway)

slightly more help in the edit... --- http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scanner/app/launch.php works well

CPUz isn't quite what I'm after, it's unknown device drivers I need to know. I winged this one after some hefty googling, got an alternate name for the board which I found on Intels site, educated guess on what equipment was onboard and managed to get most right.

I'm not sure if there's anything that does that POW, I've looked before.

They all pull the info from what driver is installed instead of querying the actual hardware.

Can't recommend Hirens Boot CD enough for anyone in tech support.

http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

all sorts of freeware utilities on one disc...including one that youre looking for. Searches your machine and identifies all unknown hardware giving manufacturer and model

The hirens utilities dont require any install either. Just burn to CD or Extract the ISO and go.

Only issue I've had is some anti-virus software ahs stopped it running before BUT I've never had any virus etc from it in the 18+ months i've used it
