Hi all, working some more on generation's c20xe conversion. Found out today that when you crank the engine the ignition voltage fluctuates wildly between 0 and 12v.
This explains the starter motor clicking noise that we have all the time now (when cranking), and also why it wont fire, because after measuring the fuel pump relay feed wire, this voltage also fluctuates between 0-12v when turning the engine over.
Why is this happening? What could break or fail that would cause ignition voltage to drop out on cranking?
So confused...

If the armature on the starter motor is worn it will drag to many amp to turn the engine over, there for pulling them away from the ignition stopping it from firing.
replace the starter or lend one to test.

Battery is brand new, and have tested by jump starting from my car which is running at the time, same symptoms.
We have a starter here already so will swap that out next. Thanks for suggestion

It's a new conversion that hasn't worked properly yet. Started it a few months back now. But the engine/loom/box/ecu etc all came from a corsa conversion from someone else that was working.
As far as we know earths are all good, all the ones in engine aby look alright, we re-terminated a couple near the alternator and put new eyelets on them as they were rusted to fuck and almost falling off, lol.
The switched live in the engine bay, is that the single black wire to the right of the fuel rail area? If so this is connected to nothing, we were told it wasnt needed to be connected to anything.
The ECU light on the dash comes on with ignition though, so i owuld have thought it was wired up alright? Or should that be connected to something?
Cheers for the reply mate

yeah should be connected to a switched live.for now have someone crank the engine while you touch it on the + battery.see how that goes.

I think we tried that the other day (just trying random things out of desperation), but will do it again to make sure.
I assume it would need extending back to inside the car to get its feed from an ignition live in there?

where ever you can find a switched live, mine is under the bonnet but on my mates mk3 astra we had to take it inside the car.
if that wire is not connected it won't run.

It's run before now though. About 3 weeks ago we had it running fine. Started every turn of the key without fail. Then everything went to shit.
Not sure if you've seen any of the other threads on here about this conversion, but it all went wrong when we heard a relay(s) clicking on and off non-stop. That noise has since stopped but the other noise of the starter motor clicking is still present (might need more elaboration if you've not seen the other threads)
It won't turn over properly because of that.

if the battery is good and the starter is just clicking then the solonoid is stuck/nackered.give it a whack or try another one.
