Avast! AVG was ok a few versions back but it's now far too bloated with crap.

Well you all probably know my opinion on free anti virus software by now but if I had no choice I'd probably stick with Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Oh and don't use IE as your web browser!

Avast! Been using it about 3-4 years now and never had anything come thru.

AVG and Avast pretty similar.

Windows Defender is good for blocking spam.

Currently have a subscription to MacAfee which came with PC. Will probably revert to one of above when runs out.
