What tools do I need to fit a carpet properly.
Iv only ever roughly fitted carpets before just using a Stanley knife, however now I'm doing up my own place I want to do it properly.
I plan to do my small 3rd bedroom first, then move onto my bedroom and once complete I hope to have enough practice/confidence to do my staircase.

Bolster. There is a tool you use for stretching the carpet, its like a tube thing with small spikes on one end and a pad on the other end you bang you knee against to stretch it. You then use the bolster to tuck the edges of the carpet down against the walls etc. Then a knife to cut it obviously.

i found working from one corner outwards worked well with mine. I didnt use one of them knee pads, i found shimmying it outwards from the corner worked just as good.
If you can tuck the carpet under the skirting boards, gives a neater finish.

Cheers lads, going to order those tools as they are only £30.
It's annoying as I don't think the carpet I want will fit under my skirting. The skirting been there since the 30s So I don't fancy taking it off as I will never get it back on!

there was a small gap under mine, was enough to force it under, as long as you can fit the end of the bolster under it, you should be able to fit the carpet under.

Do you have underlay and gripper if you don't then there is no point in a knee kicker as that's only used to stretch the carpet over the gripper rods

You can hire the knee kickers v cheap from tool hire shops mate

Using them things seriously fucks your knees!
But your not a pro so it dont matter, and i mirror what cole said!
But like has been said £2.50 sq m carpet feels like £10 sq m carpet with underlay

Ok Chris I see how you have meant that to sound now. I'm an ex carpet salesman 5yrs for carpet right and tbh a £2.50m2 carpet wouldn't feel like a £10 m2 carpet even with underlay lol
