And its doing my head in! Anybody able to help?

When I hold down this red/orange bit it plugs the whole in the bottom and the water fills up and eventually stops. But as soon as I let go the water just pours out. I've cleaned the filter thing on the bottom of this but didn't help.

Now when we moved in this was sitting on top (Typical new build)....

Is this important to keep the filter thing at the bottom plugged and therefore allowing the water in the cistern to fill up & stop when needed?

Help greatly appreciated as I'm useless with stuff like this!

Mine was due to the buoy not sitting high enough, so it was over filling.

I had this not long ago and it turned out that the dual flush button was getting caught on its way up, leaving the valve open. one half was trapping under the other and stopping it from coming to the top.

I've had to change one of mine, you'd flush it and the water kept coming out. I blame those green in-cistern tablet things, made the plastic on the mechanism go funny and stop it moving properly.

I just found the exact same model of flush valve on Ebay and replaced it like for like.
