An issue I have come across with my new build is that you can hear a slightly high pitched noise from the speakers even when no sound is being played.
It's quite noticeable unless you turn up the volume to whatever is playing.
I'm guessing this is some sort of ground loop/earth issue and if so, where do I start looking to fix this?

Interference from non magnetically shielded speakers or on a cheapo speaker cable if not possibly?
I'm running an eBay special 15m AUX cable from the sound card to me speakers and they now give off a bit of a whine / buzz as soon as they're turned on these days!

Right I think I have narrowed it down to something going on with the audio via HDMI.
Basically I have a monitor with a HDMI port on the back and this is how I connect either my MacBook Pro or this new PC I recently built.
I plug in a 3.5mm speaker cable into the back of it and the other end goes into my 2.1 set up which I've never had any problems with before, especially with the MacBook Pro.
If I use the same arrangement with my PC, this is when the interference occurs. It's not so noticeable with the speakers but it's really bad when I plug in my earphones (again not had any problems with them before).
Interestingly, if I plug in my earphones into the stereo jack on the back of the PC there is no interference whatsoever!
I did several other tests such as using the HDMI with the built-in graphics and removing my video card, disabling the case fan, using a different power cable and even plugging the power cable somewhere else.
I just don't understand why this issue only happens when I use HDMI from this PC?

Is it a continuous 'hum' (ie: 50Hz grounding issue)? Or a random, data, morse code-esque type noise (usually caused by hard drive activity)?

It hasn't got any hard drives, only an SSD.
What happens is, normally there is no noise but as soon as some sound is being played (even for example one of the Windows 'ding' type sounds) you hear this high pitched noise whilst the sound plays and then when there's no sound it goes silent again.
I've also noticed that when some music for example is being played at a low volume like 8 or so, a lot of the time you won't hear anything (no it's not me going deaf lol) and so you have to crank the volume up and then back down to 8 to hear it... but then it goes silent again after a while!
