Me and the mrs are in the process of buying our first house, no chain, we are buying my cousins house and he is buying another, same mortgage adviser and everything accepted and in order so things were planned to go smoothly, not quickly!

All was going good until end of last week, turns out the house they are buying isn't registered with Land registry as the person who lived there had been there since (I guess) the 70's, that was the done thing back then apparently.

Today we find out the deeds for the property they are buying have been 'lost'!

Now waiting to hear from solicitors to see what happens next!

Seems like such a ball ache, anyone else had these problems before?

Time delay that's all . If the people have lived there over 10 years and can prove that they can claim it . Am sure they bought it in good title and can prove that . Welcome to the joys of house buying

They will have to provide whatever evidence they have of ownership over a long period and sign a declaration that they've had exclusive use for x years. Land registry will register it on that basis.

Irritating, but sortable.

Some confusion through solicitors I think, have been told the deeds for their house have been applied for, the bank has acknowledged the application and we will get a reply next week as to whether they have them or they are 'lost'!

Hopefully they have them as when it's registered with land registry they can do change of owner at the same time apparently which will save a lot of time, fingers crossed!
