I finally took the plunge as these systems have become pretty affordable recently.. For £1,000 you can get a four channel 1080p setup with a relatively decent DVR (with pre-installed hard-disk).
I wasn't sure how much better the picture would be on the digital system as the previous 'high-end' Analogue 960H systems didn't seem much better than my out-going 600TVL HikVision system..
The images are un-fucking-believable, its like having a load of GoPro's instead of CCTV cameras and I couldn't recommend HD-SDI enough! IP systems are nice but they are difficult to manage unless you are prepared to build or shell out the cash for a server/sonology system.
Annoyingly I had to replace all of my wiring as previously I was using CAT5 (with baluns on each end) so I could have one single cable carrier video, audio, power and PTZ signals but sadly single pair in a UTP cable cannot offer enough bandwidth so I've had to fit new shotgun RG59+2 cable (I left the CAT5 in place in case I ever go with IP cams).
I need to work out how to capture stills/pull video from the DVR so these are just photos of the screen:
And here's a video trying to demonstrate the detail (make sure you select 1080p):

I got hikvision 1080p ones on the recommendation of a couple if people on here and they are great. Also picked them up for 60 quid each. That and an acquired PC to run synology dscam and I've got a an HD system with 4 cameras for £200.
No way I'd do what you've just done, running new cables instead of using already in place cat5 is absolutely nuts.

What IP cameras are you running? All of the cheap ones I've seen only have 0.3MP sensors

That's the guy I bought them from.
Got 1 with no customs, got 5 the second time and it cost me £15, £7 of that for DHL admin.
