Mines done this a few times, you need to be in the middle of a three point turn or such like, when you're turning the wheel quick you get a loud 'ooooooo' noise for half a second or so.

Any clues?

i would also like to know what the hell is wrong too??
this is a very common problem, ive read and posted threads about it but still havnt got a cure...

its really annoying as mates/people in car think what the hell is that noise!
and im not sure if people outside the car can hear it too!??? Hope Not!

does exactly the same in my corsa, a sort of quick "moooo" sound when the car is still and im turning the wheel......
thing is i cant pin point exactly were the sound comes from??
sounds like from the steering wheel area??

somone once said its somthing to do with the powersteering mechanism and very expensive to sort? one time i thought it was the horn?

It'll be the power steering pump/drive belt... Dad's astra did it, even our new Corsa C does it, just one of those things...

my cally did it all the time.
my gsi does it every so often.
pretty annoying, you can avoid it by waiting till your rolling at a few mph before putting any lock on. makes manouvering a pain in the ass, but it's that or the noises.

It is located by the front engine mount on the drivers side:

This is on a 20XE engine though... But will be in roughly the same place...

Common problem then!

When you say its the belt - what specifically? Too loose so it slips when its under most load? Reckon a new belt would cure it? There is also adjustment I assume?

Ian this is similiar to what I'm having issues with atm, its 'rare' and not always there...

tried BeArDy's advice of taking the cap off & checking for bubbles, it seemed to help it tbh, feels a bit better & made no noise since!

Gona get it checked at vaux tho just incase.

Mine sounds like there's a sea lion in the steering column, which is weird... because the one I've got in the boot only just fits.
