ive heard that induction kits do actually cause harm to the engine, fouling up MAP sensors (i think) anyone shed any light on this.

quote from peugeot206club

"The induction kit alone is really worth nothing, apart from the sound.
Even with proper shielding it doesn't give that much extra, in terms of power or torque. Infact the major problem with open kits is the fowling of the MAP sensor. I can't speak for all kits, but the K&N (which uses a cotton gauze, with a special oil to trap the dirt/dust) can cause problems because of the oil which evaporates off the filter and messes up the sensor, causing all sorts of problems. "

The AFM can be hot wire of film sensors, and contamination of these can cause them to misread the air flow and hence cause the engine run poorly.
The lower filtration of inductions kits is partly responsible for this, but a MAP sensor eqiped car won't run the risk.

With cotton gauze filters, generally those that have damaged sensors have been over-oiled by customers, so it's not the manufacturers fault.

No decent induction kit (either cotton gauze or foam) will damage an air flow meter except under absolute extreme circumstances (like the reason no VX220 turbo should be fitted with an induction kit!).

If products made by K&N, Pipercross, Green, Ramair, Itg and BMC damaged engine components then they would withdraw that particular filter from sale.
