ok, but i want the 16cm components, attatch the speaker to the mdf ring, but how would i attatch the mdf ring to the standard speaker holes? would the ring be small enough to connect to the standard 3 holes for the origional speaker?

Should be... just drill countersunk holes in it using the original speakers as a template

draw round the back of the standard speakers to get the shape, they use a router or jigsaw and make a hole for teh speakers you have in teh middle.
