Help me out guys, I don't quite understand this!
I have a PC and laptop, specs are: -
PC
AMD Altlon XP 2000+
1024 RAM (DDR 400)
200GB HD (ATA 133)
ATI 9600XT 256MB Graphics Card
Laptop
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 RAM (DDR 266)
40GB HD (ATA 100)
32 NVIDEA Graphics Card (or something spelt like that )
Now the PC runs dead fast but the Laptop is quite slow. Both running Win XP Pro on clean HDs -- i.e. formated.

You'll need to overclock the L2 cache on the FSB before your EIDE ATA's will spin at the RPM needed to SMB.

THe PC has faster RAM and faster Harddrive(s), and laptops are generally slower than their desktop counterparts.

I've run the PC with 512MB 266 RAM and an ATA 100 HD. It's gotta be the latter as the PC was still faster.

Laptops are slower than pc's
Once i had a 700mhz 256ram PC
and a 1100 mhz 256 ram laptop
The pc was faster....
What do you mean by slower anyway....
The laptop should be fine with web browsing and using it for work and playing music, shit for games tho....

Laptops will always be slower because all the components are slower to drop the power consumption so the batteries last longer than 10minutes.

Laptop processors are of a better quality silicon, so putting a mobile Athlon chip into a PC is a good idea. Im still looking for one to put in mine

the processors in laptops are totally different to that of a pc even though they run at a higher frequency there small size means the way they process the instruction sets efficiency is reduced. That coupled with half the ram. Also the graphics in laptops are generally wank onboard affairs, with low video memory so when running applications that use directx your PC will utilize the graphics card and vram to an advantage again

Not true with the AMD M processors. Full scale jobbies with just passive cooling, but superior quality to reduce heat. Also can be overclocked very nicely. Will fit my MSI 6382 v3 MoBo quite nicely I am not sure about the latest mobile AMD ones though, i am only aware of the compatability of the T-Bred's.
