At the moment ive got 40mm Apex springs and wondered whether it would be going for the full suspension kit that Apex do? its about £240...

Would it improve handling or comfort?

yes.

handling will improve quite a bit.
comfort however, will be more harsh ride, but less bouncy.

My nova that was down -40mm on standard shocks and PI springs, handled and felt better than my corsa -40mm on full koni suspension kit
