Try givin it some stick when starting it so its running lumpy & keep pressing/releasing the accelerator...
its how I used to start my old 1.4 8v when it was being stubborn & also how I did the GSi the other day cos it just didnt want to know...

is it turning over?
is there a spark?
fuel in it?
any of components damp? could give them a spray with WD40, take a look at dizzy cap and rotor arm. if you take the leads off remember their order or you're fcuked

check the dizzy cap, could be carbon on one of the contacts giving a bad connection, just scrape clean with a key

no dont use a key! could make it worse, scrape any metal off and it will screw with the distance the spark jumps..... rub it on a tyre as this takes off the shite without damaging the metal
