standard backbox will probably laugh at you for this, and retaliate by emptying itself of baffles ont the nearest bit of tarmac
decent backbox however, and it'll sound better, deeper and more raspy, but not that much louder

no the cat is the Catalytic Converter, and the centre section is the silencer a bit further back

centre section is the box in the middle... pipe going to back box and pipe going to cat.... on mine the cat and centre section was joined (unlike some others where the cat is built into manifold downpipe)
if you remove centre box then the gases won't be able to expand as well so you'll end up with too much back pressure probs.... loosing speed... but just removing silencers will probs make the back box suffer.
if you want on ebay someone does cheap ass aluminium back boxes (literally a bit of folded aluminium and tail pipes)... my mate had one and it was far too loud as it had no baffles etc (made me laugh cos its proper cheap poop)

mine goes better with no centre box... less turbulance in the system = better gas flow, if it were a two stoke then it would be detrimental to performance but four stroke is more about flow

Centre... cat has legal implications, not worth the hassle
