cam belt gone on step dads astra 1.7TD (S reg mk4 1998), and wrecked the engine so need a new one....
problem is apparently they only made these engines for a short amount of time (a year or so) so they're like rocking horse shoot to get hold of. Apparently its the one after the isuzu engine, and is a general motors engine (been told only made for 12 months)
now i guess they made this in all mk4 1.7TD (indirect fuel injection) models 98-00 until they moved onto the 1.7DTi (direct fuel injection). How much work would be needed to stick a 1.7TDi lump in.... or even a 1.7TD isuzu engine? cos getting the 1.7TD engine is gonna cost £500+ (and then fitting charges)
any help greatly appreciated (although this may not be best place to get it  )
