The 2k is an example to work out the figures and give clear example.
A companys IT policy should stop this though as if you state the machine is used for business use only this tax will not come into play.

yes.
Thats just what im asking.
Our company does not have a policy set aside, or has told anyone that they cannot use the PC for personal use.
This needs to be put in place.

if someone asked me if i was using the internet for non work related stuff of course i am going to lie and say no.

so you would risk something like a 5k fine (or something silly) by not declaring it?

Personally no, I would get a IT policy up ASAP, its a good practice anyway as you have somewhere to stand if someone is taking the piss with internet use for example and get everyone to agree to it.
And make all new employees sign it before working there.
They are pretty standard anyway if anyone wants a copy I can send mine which was edited from one of the world’s largest IT outsourcers
Bloody stupid tax though and a complete stupid way of doing it, the employee computer schemes I can understand taxing that as you take a PC home, but who has not emailed a mate, or looked on the internet for something un-work related if only for a minute.
I wonder if Gordon brown will pay it when he e-mails his wife or friends when he is jet setting around the world saving starving kids, from a government laptop
