Author problems getting into safe mode

hi,

i am trying to boot in safe mode to solve a prob with my sony laptop. I am running windows home xp. I press F8 as it boots but it wont go into safe mode, just starts as normal!

Help!

do u not have to press a function key 1st (probs have fn on the key). cos i do on mine cos its a the F keys do other things if the function key isnt on or off

my function keys do the things coloured in blue/purple on the latop....the F keys are all in white.
