thinking of having my pc hooked upto my hdtv
my graphics card, which i am yet to buy, has a dual out put DVI, so i will be using a 5metre dvi to hdmi cable for the connection!
what im trying to find out is, will it be ok to use a cable of that length?
and will the pc image fit my tv fully? no black boxes or allignment problems?

I would think that cable is fine, im using a 5/6m VGA cable and it looks awesome.
All you have to do is set your GFX card to your HDTV resolution and youre done

oh i see, so its all about the resolution then
my tv is 1920x1080p maximum
the closest my current built in graphics card does is 1280x1084 maximum,
does it have to match exactly??

are you sure you cant 'force' 1920x1080? You can create custom resolutions.

You should able to select 1920x1080 once you have the screen connected (your current monitor it probably what's causing the current limit). What graphics card is it onboard (how much memory too)?
I have a 3m DVI->HDMI cable running at 1080p and it looks awesome.
Whether or not it'll fit the screen exactly (1:1 pixel mapping) etc is mainly dependent on your TV...

oh i see, makes sence, so once the tv is connected the resolutions should be available
my current onboard graphics is a 128mb, but its pretty rubbish lol
my tv is a 50inch pioneer 1080p, as long as it fits more or less, i would be happy

128mb will be fine for 1920x1080. You may find media is a bit jerky playing HD media (as I did with the onboard 6150) without a decent card. I've since swapped it with the nvidia 6800 from my other PC and it's great
If you do a search for your TV on Google for 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI you should find out if it'll do it. It makes quite a big difference as otherwise text isn't sharp...

ive found out that over vga connection on my tv it is 1:1 pixel mapping
so do you think it would be the same for the hdmi connection??
also, i was wondering is it only reccommended to use dual splitter cables on graphics cards that are intended for dual out put from their single connection??
or can i use the dual Y splitter cable on any graphics card??
