Hi, i know its something people always contemplate doing, i used Ed rattle can guide for most of it but thought id make a guide pacifically for wheels..

Sooo, first things first... You will need

Various sand paper 240, 800, 1200 is what i used
Primer ( high build primer if you have deep marks )
Paint ( colour of your choice )
Clear laquer

Right ill tell you how i did it, i understand there are people who do bodywork who may think thats wrong etc but this is how i did it

First remove your wheel from your vehicle and give it a good wash with soapy water then rinse off and dry.

Now starting with 240 grit sand down your wheel to get rid of any deep marks etc, once done go over this with 800 grit, Wash off again and dry, then mask wheel up and its ready for primer and should look like below

Now with the primer give it a very light coat so you can still see through to the previous colour

Leave this for 5 mins, then do the same thin coat once more and leave again, then after that give it a thicker coat covering all areas..

Leave your primer to dry for a hour or so, then flat down with 1200 grit paper ( wet ) and you should end up with something like the below, you should be able to feel how smooth it is also

wipe off again i just used a wet cloth then dried it with a heat gun..

Now its ready for paint grap your can of paint and the first coat should be very light, then leave for 20 mins, now i gave it another coat ( dont worry if it looks very mottled at this point, it doesnt matter ) Then your final coat should be quite thick and make sure you cover all areas evenly. You should be left with something like below..

Now this should be left to dry for about 30 mins before applying laquer, if you want to attempt a mirror finish you may want to leave it for 24 hours and polish the paint before the laquer but i didnt do this.

What i did now was got my can of laquer and heated it up using the heat gun, then applied one thin coat, left it for about 10 minutes, then applied my thick coat you should be left with it looking like below.

Thats really everything the finished product once dry is a good shiney finish

Hope i havent missed anything, if anyone wants to add anything feel free .

2. how did you spray behind the spokes?
3. where can i get a heat gun and how much?

Cheers

you polish the laquered surface, not the basecoat, that will always be dull until theres a clearcoat on it

i always leave 12 - 24 hours before colouring on primer and lacquering on colour as i have found when doing it early it mixes with the primer or colour when only part dry.
