This is in a nova, we have an XE engine which we have fitted. The engine turns over nicely, but as of yet there is no sign of a spark.

Is this going to be something difficult to solve? Where do we start?

On a Nova do you need an earth from the gearbox to the chassis still?

so its ot a coil pack then...

have you tryed checking the crank position sensor as the coil pack picks up off this and will not send out any HT if this aint working?

the CKP sensor, easy turn the stearing wheel full lock left, lay on your back and its on the bottom pulley held in by a 8mm bolt.

sepending on the engine they can be up to £40

Its not on the bottom pully on a xe.
It points inside the front of the block, and picks up the crankshaft rotation.

Does the car have a earth strap from the starter motor bolt to the battery negative terminal? If so it dont need the gearbox strap.
Check the fuel rail earths.

And does the ecu light come on with ignition?

Mine was doing this last month. I had no spark, checked leads, coil etc. Bought a new ECU and it started first time, and has ever since.

Could be the same problem?

You got the hall sensor for the engine? A lot of people miss it when getting the engine / loom, wont run without it.

Flashed the fault codes?

if the engine is turning over then you wont need a strap from the box

take the plug off the coil, and get a lead light. switch the ignition on and check the wires inside the plug.

one should be earth, one live and the other pne should flash when cranking.

if it flashes check the coil if it doesnt then check crank sensor, ecu etc

If the management light doesn't come on, but its wired up.
Then the ecu isn't getting power.

Update for today.

ECU seems to power up a\s the light is on the dash.

Where is the crank sensor? Is it the sensor in front of the dispac with the 2 13mm bolts holding the cover on? I have tried changing the cover over with abnother one and plugging it in but still no joy.

The car is turning over but we are getting no fuel and no spark, Any ideas would be appreciated now! Getting a bit stuck.

Any detail about changing the crank sensor would be nice, just to check if we have done it right - Haynes is a bit useless for it!!

Its on the front of the block, bolted to it.
Under-ish the thermostat housing.
