My x14xe is getting right on my tits!!When driving home this evening from work it started playing up big time!It started fine although the revs seemed to be bouncing between 600 and 1200 rpm on its own,so started off and the car seemed to be hesitating on accel. Then when driving through the revs it started to jerk and then seemed fine. Then i had to stop at some lights and the car cut out so started it and was fine but after that, everytime i dump the clutch the fooker cut out straight away.Any ideas as its getting a bit hairy when driving it!!
ps no eml on

hello mate.... bad luck.
i had a problem a few monthds ago with my car cutting out when comin up to junctions and dipping the clutch, revs drop stupidly low and was spluttering, sometimes just staying alive and other dieing. however everything else ran fine, so not sure if you have a few things which may need cleaning out etc etc
try cleaning out the icv and make all pipes etc are split free

Sounds like IACV. But then when it was hesitant, sounds like the AFM problem on X10/12XE

Right it seems my car isnt fixed!!!Its now throwing up the EML around every 2 minutes for about a minute and the code is
0400 EGR valve
Would this cause the above symptoms? As the eml has been coming on(EGR) once in a while since i fitted the mantzel copy but has only just started playing up.
Cheers

Did you leave the EGR valve connected electrically when you fitted the mantzel?

Is the engine still hesitating while your accelerating or has changing the dodgy leads cured it? Someone asked if your speedo is working because that can make it cut out at junctions

Ok mate, best advice I could give then is either a split pipe somewhere or a gunked up Idle control valve. Doubt the EGR problem would cause your problems but its probably best to try another to get rid of the ECU light. no need to bolt it on to test it, just plug it in and tie it somewhere under the bonnet

the thing is though,i have now unplugged the egr and the car seems to be running a lot better apart from the eml being on all the time now!Ill clean the icv up for starters and check for vacuum leaks also and report back

Why haven't you replaced the EGR? Isn't it telling you it's goosed?

cause i only read the codes at about 3pm!!Plus i wanted to be sure that a fubar EGR would cause these symptoms before spending my hard earned dollar!

Oh and am i right in thinking that when i get the new egr i can plug it in and leave it hanging to test it rather than putting it to the engine where the old one is?

EGR valves are fairly common on the X14 and X16 engines. they are a bugger to replace and cost a fair bit too. when you replace the EGR use 97oct fuel as this will stop the carbon deposits building up to a large extent.
