After a new broadband deal.

Light download use and would be a bonus if it is quick with online gaming for my xbox.

My parents have BT that seems good. Not heard great stuff about Tiscali.

thanks

I use Nildram and have been singing their praises for years, but im reluctant to recommend them now theyve joined forces with tiscali just in case anything changes Zen are widely acknowledged as the best if you dont mind paying for it, pipex are also supposed to be good. Try www.adslguide.org and compare the ISPs side by side

What are uk online like with the speeds and traffic shaping?

The 20 quid deal looks good but thats exactly what i'm paying virgin and its a joke, i'd rather pay the extra few quid and get decent speeds.

Anyone any actual experience?

I'm with Tiscali and i can't say a bad thing about the actualy service. Plus they have bought out Pipex as well. I pay £20 a month and get steady downloads speeds of 520KBS plus I get the Tiscali TV included in that which is freeview plus some sky channels and loads of on demand stuff. Line rentals included.

Customer service isn't the best but i'm hoping that now its installed and set up I don't need to ring them again.

Way better that BT anyway.

Having said that im reluctant to recommend Nildram just because they are now owned by Tiscali, ive not had any problems with them since the change. For £20 a month you got 10GB allowance plus 100% unlimited offpeak allowance which means you can download as much as you like between midnight and 8am, with no trafic shaping or anything. I regularly get 750-800kB/s on torrents and rapidshare, so if you wanted, you could theoretically download about 20GB every night without it affecting your 10GB a month allowance. Its a pretty good deal

I'm with ADSL24. Brilliant for gamers..... my ping is always under 15ms on most UK servers.

Plus.net are currently in my bad books as I've gone over 4gb and I'm currently at 128kbps, and they won't regrade the package until billing date - 20th.

I'm with BT, can't really fault them. Expensive but work will be paying mine

We use Zen at work and don't seem to have any issues. I've had to call them a few times for customers and there customer service is really good. Zen are not the cheapest either tbh.

Had an instance like Ian too where the would not upgrade a customers package until the billing date. Pain in the arse but not to much an issue as we deal with companies.

Ive been with UKOnline for a few years now and more than happy with them, speeds are always good and dont think Ive had a dropped connection with them since Ive been with them...more than I can say for when I was with AOL (parents) and BT, where it happened everyday atleast 10 times
