well it will but with a love tap which cant help its seems 2 be fine when the car is cold say after 30mins of driving it dont like 5th any ideas got no money at min so will hav stay unless i can fix it my self any help will ace

could be ur gear linkage needs centering does it feel like it just wont go over far enuf to go into fith

nope not gear linkage because if it was u would not get 1st,3rd n 5th gear

Mine had a similar problem, can be wear on the linkage. Try a new one.

but it does not work that way i dnt think because of the H gate in the linkage i would have 2 say internal of the box is your answer

try adjusting the gear linkage trust me, my B wouldnt go into 3rd properly, adjusted linkage and now goes in a dream...

as said before try adjusting the linkage.if that don't work get a bush kit form vaux and fit that then re-adjust it.

is it a c?im guessing it's a b as they suffer with it quite alot.never heard of a c having the same problem as of yet.

i have same problem but i cant always get into 2nd gear
also when going into 5th i need to push it over as if im puting it into 5th, take it out and do it a second time for it to actualy go onti 5th.

thanks 4 the replys. i have tryd adjusting the linkage still is the same maybe need a new linkage and its a 1.4 sport

it couild be gear linkage rossyboy if it aint centerd u'll get 1st n 2nd easy but wnt et 5th or vise versa

and by adjustin the linkage we are talkin about that white block thing like on a bolt which is a git 2 get 2 just 2 make sure lol

The fact that it is temperature related I would dismiss the linkage now that you have adjusted it (worth doing as its only a 13mm pinch bolt anyway)
5th is on the end of the cluster so would run dry if the gearbox oil is low.
You should have a level plug on the side of the box on the N/S by the CV. Remove that and top up with gearbox oil until it runs from that holoe. Replace the plug and see if it is any better?
