I snapped a bolt removing my thermostat on a X16XE last week, just below the head.

Any ideas on how to remove it? I have tried molegrips, it just slips or tries to open the jaws up when its turned.

I did think about drilling down the centre of it and using a bolt extractor, but its only about 3 or 4 mm in diameter anyway, very small bolt

cheers,
Tom

Its not too bad to get to Dave, its the one nearest the radiator so the best of the three to snap

There is probably about 2 mm sticking up out of the housing?

I was thinking that, not too sure though - it was stupidly tight, I was worried the screwdriver just may turn and rip the screw again.

Only one way to find out I suppose!

you wont get enough on it with a screwdriver i wouldn't have thought. it'll probably destroy whats left.

you could try knocking a dent into the side of it with a punch and then try to shock it loose. spray some WD40 or eaze-it on there first.

^As above mate.... safest option because you could end up doing damage to whats left that stops you doing anything.
