My XE is fitted with a PAS pump and therefore has a longer belt.
When i remove the PAS pump, what alternator belt do i need?

The belt will be numbered up, the number refers to it's length in mm.
Alternatively run a piece of string around the pulleys, mark where they meet and measure it for the answer!

Is it one belt that does the PAS and alternator on your XE?

I used the string method on mine to work out the length then realised they related to the lengths on the packaging in Halfords.
Mine ran a Mk3 Astra 1.6 PAS pump but IIRC my belt was 880mm?

He should have a double V bottom pulley, the inner V (larger diameter) should run the alternator, the outer smaller one should be the PAS IIRC?

Thats how mine is but he was asking what belt he would need when he removed the PAS, so maybe he has the multi ribbed one that does both?

Yeah thats the multi ribbed one im afraid so its not as simple.
From memory I think you need to change the bottom pulley for a double (or single, doesn't matter) V one and change the alternator pulley to match.

Shot in the dark here but surely he can just fit the alternator bracket with the adjustment facility from a V belt setup and then do the string method for the belt?

Just thinking that it is easier to obtain the bracket and fit it rather than change pulleys as I find the spline heads on the pulleys strip for fun thats why I replaced all mine with stainless cap heads.

Yes he could obtain the bracket for the alternator and do it that way if there is a multi rib belt that short that he can get hold of. but they are generally quite long since they are used to do more than one thing.
So see if you can get a multi rib one short enough, but if not you will have to change the pullies
