just got my new quad core beast
and ive installed vista ultimate 64bit
cant seem to find a msn to work on it

I had that problem with vista. Turned out it was more a firmware issue with the router. MSN on XP worked fine with the router but not Vista.
Router is a netgear dg834G
Setting I changed was:
Goto device manager,
network adaptors
properties (on the network connection)
Advanced
Link speed and Duplex (CHANGE to 10mbps half duplex)
If you want to keep it at the 100mbps then you will need to roll back the firmware on the router.
Don't know if this solution will work with other routers, but it is a known problem for the firmware V3.01.31 on the Netgear DG834
