Now then chaps,

Whats the best, most reliable way to unlock an Iphone 2g? I've heard conflicting reports that ZiPhone isnt the best way as its sloppy coding and that Pwnage tool is the best but only runs on Macs.....any ideas?

Cheers

I used Ziphone, was easy and the phone hasn't done anything wrong. Wouldn't fail to use it again.

You can get WinPWN which is Pwnage for Windows.
I think Pwnage was updated to cover 2.02 (with Installer added back in).

I think pwnage does it, it lists iPhone 3g on the front screen.

No, just downloaded pwnage, 2.0.1 firmware and a couple of boot loaders and it did the rest itself. It was surprisingly easy.

Have you still got installer on it Joe? I fancy updating mine to the latest, but would still like the apps I've got now. Also do you lose your text messages if you update or do you have to back it up.

Thats exactly how I did mine, I just started off with Pwnage then it talks you through the rest and what you need and where to get it from. Although I have a Mac so I believe it is different, but I'm sure there will be a guide on the net somewhere.

Yeah still got installer, and it backs your phone up before it does it so once its all done you can just restore all the stuff back onto it.

Once it was all done when Itunes detected the phone again it said the computer had already had a phone synced to it, do you want to use it as a new phone or restore. So I just clicked restore and everything was back.

when you do this joe, do you lose what was currently on the phone, i.e. apps / settings / contacts?

Not sure about the Apps as I didn't have any on before hand, but no it backed up the phone to the last time I synced it. Then just restored it once it was all done. So I still had all my old texts, contacts etc.
