Pistons seems no damage at all :



How can i remove this carbon from piston head ?

Get them chemically cleaned. Cost me £10.

pistons can be cleaned with scotchbrite pads and petrol.

yeah i will try with scotchbrite and petrol but monster what chemical was used and did you get the pistons out of bores to clean them or ?

problem the belt sliped a teeth or 2 casue of broken bolt head from vernier pulleys got trough the belt

yes, scotchbrite is ideal as it doesnt remove metal, just cleans it. and any deris that comes off it is harmless to the bores/engine incase you miss some when cleaning the engine before re-assembly.

remeber to clean out the bolt holes in the block well.

I have no idea mate. But yes, the pistons had to be removed and sent off. Came back like brand new though.

if the cylinder head is already off then take sump off then take pistons out
also you can use carb cleaner to get the carbon off piston crowns then when carbon is off piston crowns polish them up and you can use the carb cleaner to get carbon off the combustion chambers in cylinder head,
also you can polish the valve faces and valve stems with solvol

As 20valver says, you can polish the pistons up, I did them on my car down to 1200 wet and dry, you could see your face in the crowns. It is known as Metrology and reduces the theoretical surface area of the piston (your eyes see the reflection from millions of tiny edged shallow grooves from the w&d rather than big standard casting marks). It helps to reflect the heat back, keeps the pistons cooler.

I wouldn't bother cleaning the carbon from the exhaust ports of the head though, you actually want a layer of carbon on there rather than fresh casting.

i have removed carbon from piston tops ok with dome thinner and scotchbrite and remove gasket from inlet had to leave inlet in water so the gasket can soak a bit of water but it was hard to remove. will post some pic 2morrow.
Is there a way I can polish pistons top without sand paper ??

You do not use sand paper, you use wet and dry. The higher the number the better the result. That simple, assuming you spend the time of course.

also when piston crowns are polished this help shows where the detonation marks are and you could if you wanted to polish the exhaust ports as well and the combustion chambers in the cylinder head

WTF?

Are you opting to just try to throw as many technical sounding words into your posts as possible in order to look smart or something? Why the hell would you want to polish pistons that have det marks in them, metrology is a bit OTT to be honest (only really applicable to those with a big build chasing every last fraction of a percentage, ie. not a shonky old 1.4 8v with an air box filled with bog!) and if going to that extent you sure as hell don't do it on shonky 'damaged' pistons.



You do not need to polish a piston to be able to see det marks, even Stevie Wonder could spot these after getting blind drunk.

I try to get photos maybe 2orrow as I cleaned everything pistons are shinning now and can see detonation marks as i will have to wait for some stainless steel valves !
