Take the whole lot out and cut a piece of steel to bolt over the whole in the manifold. Done mine in 30 minutes, need a gasket on the cover tho

Its basically EGR system, all it does is when its cold it helps to warm the cat up, and is supposedly more "Economical" hence eco-tec. But it does make a blind bit of difference to performance or economy!

Its not the EGR system but you can remove it, you will have to leave the silver round thing in the second picture in place though unless you get the exhaust welded up.
Might have to get the 2 pipes to it blocked off but Im not sure, got rid of it all in one go on my last car

Its needed in foreign countries as they test emmissions from turn of key so the cat has to heat up quicker getting it to optimum working temp. Makes the car more economical quicker.

Lol two seperate things, Egr is under the inlet manifold recirculates Exhaust gasses and the SAI pump sucks in the (Still cold) air throught a small filter (seen in picture 1 the black round thingy) and pumps it into the exhaust creating a higher oxygen rate making a better burn which heats the cat up quicker. Common mistake as ive had garages (that dont see many vauxhalls) and ebayers saying it to.

Anyway - Yeah rip the bugger out but make sure you have a metal plate to blank the manifold off or weld it! Useless foreign junk weighing us down

incorrect, you can keep it with the janspeed.
and it heats the cat up sooner, by adding air the lambda sees it and add fuel.
so i would keep it,
i did

I know I can keep it but unless it makes the car lose power or driveability then it can go , the cat might go in the near future anyway, but will still clean emissions until its removed, to me it just takes up space and does little, I can always refit it later if I have to , like the cat at mot times.
