Not a Linuix expert by any means, but it sounds like either you don't have write permissons for it, or the OS doesn't suppose FAT32/NTFS partitions.

Try logging in as root, and see if that helps?
Do you have any other disks that are formatted in the same file system?

If it is to do with file systems, use google to find instructions on adding additional formats.

It could also be neoither of these things. Hopefully someone with a bit more linux experience can help..??

need to know the filesystem that the external hdd is using.

if its NTFS, you'll need to install ntfs-3g onto your laptop to write to it.

Could you attach it to the home network and make the stuff shared so you can transfer it that way?

As above, install ntfs-3g on the Linux machine and mount the drive using that. ntfs-3g gives you write access to NTFS volumes.

Jas, you could plug it in round mind sometime if you wanted and get the rest of the epsidoes at the same time. I got a 2TB NAS on gigabit LAN so you could just connect to that over the network
