My 18 month contract with 3 ends in November, but my phone is utter wank. It'll turn itself off whenever it feels like it. It's really slow at keeping up when typing a text. It doesnt charge unless I use a USB connected to my laptop.
If I rang them up and moaned would they do anything about it? I want out of 3 anyway as I barely even get reception in my own home!

Have you checked if 3 will repair the phone for free?
I know that o2 do, even if you don't have insurance.
Give them a phone (not literally) or check through your contract T&C.

TBh I'd rather use it as leverage to leave my contract.

18 month contract on a product that hasnt lasted 18 months? Not good enough IMO. Well I took the contract out when I was spending 90% of my time away from home.

They wont let you cancel. Thats the idea of a contract. You are tied in. I dont think the phone will actualy be part of the contract either.

Meh, worth a phone call. Worst comes to worst I'll just get a new contract and let this one die. They'll stop getting the extra on top of my monthly price then.

Phones4U do a buy out, though usually you'd be better off paying the buy out yourself and getting a deal elsewhere.
Worth shopping around, give Phones4U a call and ask them what deal they can do if they will buy your contract out.

U can upgrade in 17 months, meaning october?
It doesnt matter if it hasnt lasted the 18months, they will happily repair the phone
