Hey guys

I have bought a 1.2ltr Petrol 3 Door 1999 Corsa B, about 2 Months ago from some place in Bolton just after passing my test, at the time I was by myself and I ain't the sharpest when it comes to judging whether or not a car is fucked before I buy it, so yea I paid the guy the money and began driving home, the Oil light came on about 3 Miles into my journey, so I got home before deciding to take a look (about 6 Miles)

I got some fresh oil (didn't take out the old oil, I also think it has slightly to much) I continued to drive the car with the oil light coming on every time I slowed down or put the car into to much of a high gear, from time to time the engine management light repeatably popped on and off, but would usually go straight away.

But now the Oil light and engine management light are both on 99% of the time the engine is on, and there is now a rattling coming from the engine, the best way to describe the noise is that the car sounds like a diesel transit van....

Without anyone stating the obvious that the engine is fucked is there anything anyone can suggest or something towards how I may be able to fix this problem or do I just need to buy a new car?

Any sensible advice is appreciated

Id get it looked at by a mech ASAP.

When the oil light comes on its usually wise not to drive the car until the roblem is rectified, though course depends what it is.

The oil light means oil pressure so could be something as oil pressure switch is faulty or the oil pump could be on the way out.

Either way get it looked at ASAP

PS welcome to C/S

Hey thanks for the advice, I took it to the local Vauxhall dealership Garage near my area (which has a terrible reputation) they kept the car over night, and early morning, I went down to see what the verdict was and one of the sales persons told me that the engine oil pressure is low, they said they fitted a new oil pressure switch and changed the oil they said they had the engine in bits and that they couldn't solve the problem, they then charged me £13 for the service...... £13 for them to take the car to pieces, change the oil pressure switch and do a oil change, it sounded like bull sh*t tbh, I think I am just going to have to take it to another garage or get a complete engine change, I just wanted to ask here first just encase this was a common fault and there was a quick solution.

P.S Thanks for the welcoming

PS. Crank seal (gearbox side) tend to perish to so you may want to put a piece of cardboard under the car overnight and check for any drips of oil.

Ahhh that could very well be the case I shall get onto that straight away!

I'm interested in modifying it but I'm afraid of the costs, is there a insurance companies which specialise in modified cars which wont rape me of all my cash?

Dont drive the car with the oil light on, dont even start it.

Its prob a buggerd pump, if its started to make noises then the engine is buggerd preety much. Not worth spending the money on it.

btw AW06 if I continue to drive the car say for another few weeks or so until I get paid and buy a new car or engine, what risks do I pose to myself or anyone around me for that matter?

It will get worse and worse (Knocking noises) until a rod goes out the side of the block or just locks up. Then again after a while it might just not start once the lifters are drained of oil.

Whatever i wouldnt drive it, borrow another car or just live without.

If you wanted to repair you would prob need bottom end shells, lots of work elsewhere too (cleaning/refilling lifters, Cam/cam caps might be damaged)

Basicaly the more you drive it the more it will cost to fix. Stop driving it now (and i mean dont even start it!) and it will be cheaper to repair.

I still wouldnt risk it.

Yea I will stop driving it, I am going to set a budget of around £400, see if I can get it sorted for less then that, if not I'll just save up for a Corsa C or something

For £400 you could get it sorted.
A second hand engine is at most £200.

Reparing yours might be the same amount. Then it depends on labour at a local garage or getting somone from here to help. Or learing yourself.

Good luck.

ahh well thanks for all the advice guys, yea I think I will just go for the engine swap, just to be on the safe side, I have a friend that said his Dad can do it for cheap, I might put a slightly larger engine in it also, going to do some research on how much that would bump up my insurance, I'm sure a 1.4 wouldn't be to much of an increase on my Monthly payments

Ring your insurance, Say your thinking about changing the engine, and tell them what the engine is from etc.

Depending on your age id expect the monthly payments to go up £50-100.

Ahh that ain't to bad I suppose, that would be the first steps towards many alterations I am thinking of doing, how big do you think I could go in a Corsa B? I'm thinking 1.4 is about as much as the car could support?

I checked my Oil and the Dip stick was completely dry, I then topped the car up with like half a bottle of 50/50 and the Oil light went of, but....after a few hours it came back I think I have a leek, any advice on how to fix this?
