can just lenghen the linkage and leave the plastic bar on still or do i need a metal bar extended aswell?

I'm sure you just extend the linkage, and leave the plastic bar.

but personally i'd buy that, for the price and the quality, easier all round and will last alot longer.

It is but you need to modify the actual gearbox rear mount

grind the lug off the mount the side the spacer goes what about alternator space tho will it be tight?

all ive done is fit the spacers and extend the linkage by 10mm. ive not extended the plastic rod, the only difference is less side - side movement
