Whilst checking my coolant this morning I noticed something sat at the bottom of the header tank, it was bigger than the top hole so it's not something that's been dropped in there in it's current state. It's solid but has a similar breaking point to a biscuit and it looks like this

Any ideas what it might be or what might have caused it?

Doesn't look good mate if it was me I'd be flushing out that crap with a garden hose and putting fresh in!

looks like stop leak, id get a flush through it and get it all out but then this might show up a problem thats been temp fixed by a previous owner

Just flush it out Mike then refill it with coolant and water and keep an eye on it. If it doesnt use water and doesnt leak you have nothing to worry about.

looks like corned beef mate. should be ok with some bread and ketchup.

Right, I have got a leaky rad hence why I was checking the coolant. Looks like a new one's in order

it just looks like oxidisation, very simmilar to what is in most central heating header tanks
