Does anyone currently do this? Would love to not have a phone line (just use voip / mobiles) and have a decent connection to the internet. The only problem is i live in a non cable area and the little dongles are just not good enough for what i want to use it for.

You need a phoneline.
If he has sky broadband he'll have a line, it might be through sky, who pay BT.

Apart from cable and 3G dongles, satellite or lease lines are about your only choices. Phone line would be cheaper though

I have the same problem as you, virgin won't cable the area, no LLU and bt can't be bothered to upgrade the exchange even whilst I am paying for it. I had a 3G dongle for a while but that isn't much use all the time.

You should have a landline even if you don't *need* one - helps you get credit easier

I pay £6.79pm for Primus line rental.
and then £17pm for BE Value broadband.
If you want cheaper then get Primus line rental and Plusnet broadband, it'll end up totalling £15.36pm

I've just signed up to plusnet for phoneline and broadband, £18.49 a month all in (with a wireless router for £4.99). I'm not even getting a handset, only got the line for the broadband.

I would of saved myself £3.13 a month and gone with Primus for the line rental.
That can buy you a pint!

Sky is cheap if you can get LLU, I think you may even get the broadband free if you have sky.
It's 22.50 for line rental, anytime free calls (to the usual landlines 0870 etc) and unlimited broadband.

Sky isn't bad but they can charge activation, traffic shape and give your information to dodgy law firms
Moka, do you have a BT socket inside the property?
If you do then plug in a phone and see if there's a dial tone. If there is then dial 17070 and you'll find out what your phone number is.
You'll need that number to sign up with a contract. Primus won't charge if you already have a line in the property. Sky will charge about £30 or something.
You might be able to get BT Infinity too but you have to get line rental from BT because they are cunts

Always check that moneysavingexpert link though, as prices change.
I'd go for the cheapest at the time mixed with the broadband package you require.
I wanted unlimited and also a company who aren't complete and utter fuck dicks like Sky or BT, which is why I chose BE... plus it was something like 40p cheaper than O2

I went with sky for both my phoneline and broadband, got the unlimited and had no problems with them at all.

Being in a cabled area does not help at all. Even with Virgin you may as well have the phone. If you don't have a phone with virgin it costs you the price of the phone line more.
I would rather than Virgin broadband but Sky phone so i can get SkyAnytime+ but to do that you would end up paying for two phone lines

Haven't read the thread but a mate of mine was in same situation, they was with Virgin Media before they moved and Virgin said one of their "partners" could offer Internet - it was Sky and they fitted it outout a phone line.
